菠菜名人：典当业大王——高可宁
高可宁(1878—1955)澳门赌商。港澳著名实业家、慈善家，广东省番禺沙溪官涌人。于1937年与傅德用（傅老榕）合资泰兴公司以年饷180万澳门元承投澳门菠菜专营权，专营澳门菠菜业长达20多年之久，并于港澳地区开设多家典当铺，有省港澳“典当业大王”之称。
5岁丧父，家道清贫，14岁即外出做工，继而从商，由摊馆起家。1911年，到澳门向当局承投澳门番摊总公司的萧瀛洲总理，承出福隆下街馆位，取名德成公司。由于经营有术，颇有发展，成为各摊馆之冠。1914年，纠合友好10人称“十友堂”，以有成公司之名，承接澳门的鸦片烟。因善于经营，财雄势大，一跃成为澳门赌国权威，并先后组织省港澳同安轮船公司及设富衡银号、德生按、裕丰按等大型按押数家，遂成巨商。其一生除开赌和当押之外，以热心公益驰名。在乡间救济贫苦、开办学校。在澳门，对镜湖医院、同善堂、红十字会等慈善机构，历年捐助巨款，曾历任镜湖医院值理、同善堂永远值理、澳门中华总商会主席。他一共获得过4次勋章，是澳门天策中获勋最多的一位。1951年9月15日获葡萄牙红十字会红十字勋章，1952年6月28日获葡萄牙基利斯督勋章。 1955年在香港寓所病逝。
高可宁故居是他于1916年向土生葡人奇利·哈索购入的，位于澳门水坑尾街165号，后进行拆建成为一幢融合中西式风格的大宅。美国的霍士电影公司到澳门拍摄电影外景时，著名影星奇勒·基宝（Clark Gable）曾被招待住在2楼的一间客房内。现时他的故居为澳门受保护文物之一，但不对外开放。 % n7 M9 R" T: f( N" S
高可宁另一幢著名的物业是位于新马路的德成按，德成按是建于1917年的一间当铺，内里建筑以传统天朝典当业环境设置。德成按本已结业多时，但澳门特区ZF文化局为保存澳门本身特有的历史文化，与业主达成协议，将德成按整体建筑翻新，并将塔楼与地下改为典当业展示馆与文化会馆，楼上则为金庸图书馆，供市民参观。
另外，澳门亦有一条名为“高可宁绅士街”的街道以作纪念，是澳门少数的以天策为名的街道。
其后亦向香港东华三院捐建学校，命名为东华三院高可宁纪念小学，位处香港葵青区荔景山丽瑶邨.
